Martha Jameson
Martha Mary Jameson (Klopan) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Souris Hospital on December 28, 2025, at the age of 87.
Martha was born in Crooked River, Saskatchewan, on August 20, 1938, to parents Mary and Frank Klopan, joining her sister Ann and brother Frank. At six years of age, Martha began school walking three miles to Crooked River from the family farm. From a young age, Martha loved being outside, helping with the animals and farm duties. Her parents emigrated from Czechoslovakia and suffered the heartbreaking loss of two sons, Paul and Peter during their crossing to Canada. Martha spoke Czech until the age of around seven, when she was encouraged to speak more English. The Klopan family moved from Saskatchewan to Woodside, Manitoba in 1950s. Martha left school at the age of 16 to join her sister, Ann in Brandon. She found work doing housekeeping and later worked at the Brandon College.
Martha attended dances with her sister at the Orange Hall in Brandon, where she met the love of her life, Hugh Jameson. Hugh was a friend of Bill Fardoe’s and Ann and Bill often double-dated with them. Martha and Hugh were married on July 30, 1960, at the Little Souris United Church, with Bill and Ann serving as witnesses. The final couple to be married in that church, they celebrated 64 years together.
Following their marriage Martha moved to the Jameson family farm, which remains farmed today. Martha was well known for her love of gardening and keeping the dairy and farmyard immaculate. In 1975 they won the Dairy Beautification award for the province. She was active in the farming community, first in South Brandon and then the Roseland Community. Many mornings began before 5:00 a.m., ensuring the boys had hot chocolate waiting in the dairy barn. She would complete the morning and afternoon milkings and still have supper on the table by 5:30 p.m.
Martha’s heart belonged to her family. She supported her children and grandchildren in all their activities, especially baseball and hockey, and she never missed a birthday, including those of her great-grandchildren right up to her last days in hospital. Martha worked tirelessly on the farm yet always took pride in her appearance and sense of style when attending events.
As she grew older, Martha enjoyed sharing her knowledge of gardening with her sons and grandchildren, planting seeds that will continue to grow in her memory. She also had a deep love for birds and bird feeders, spending hours watching them outside her window. She could name them all, Finches, Hummingbirds, Chickadees, Nuthatches and Woodpeckers.
Martha was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hugh Maurice Jameson, her sister Ann Fardoe (Klopan), her brother-in-law Bill Fardoe, and her brother-in-law Ian McTavish.
Martha will be lovingly remembered by her sons Arnold (Tammy), Keith (Angie), Garth (Linda) and Robert; her grandchildren, Byran (Shayla), Warren (Marie), Danielle (Brady), Blake (Kate), Alexis (Ryan), and Keaton (Rowan); and her five treasured great-grandchildren, Baker, Sutter, Berke, Saylor and Kacey.
Martha is also survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret McTavish (Jameson), and numerous nieces and nephews from the McTavish and Fardoe families.
As per Martha’s wishes, a private family interment will be held in her honour.
